Morning sports fans,
“Wake me up when September ends!”
Everything in the garden is rosy…good numbers coming out of US and Zombieland about to be saved by Super Mario pushed markets higher and higher…even got a ceasefire in Gaza…only fly in the ointment was the iron ore price which is slipping ever downwards towards $80…hardly surprising given the ramp up in production by the majors…BHP,RIO and Vale control around 75% of iron ore supply in the world..so volume from them is key…China’s leader has said that he believes that he can maintain medium to high rate growth..and of course he will..or at least that will be the reported growth!
So we wait for Europe to hit PRINT….
Mario’s father’s day pressie….
Telstra Ex Div today
Expect our market to shrug off the iron ore price and push ahead..few ex divs will hinder but 5650 should give way today…onwards and upwards..why am I cautious..not sure but will remain so but happy to tag along for the time being…the trend is your friend..
Idea of the Day
I fully expect as we head into Northern Hemisphere autumn and the end of the Fed money splurging we are going to see more volatility..I reckon as the reality of higher rates in 2015 comes up in the windscreen we will see a fair bit of money leave the party…another interesting thing for our market is the huge swathe of dividend cheques that are going to be hitting punters..couple that with all these LICS raising money like QVE and Future Generation and that money will have to be put to use..they usally have six months and waiting for apullabck is de rigeur…but what if that doesn’t happen..lots of money chasing too few quality sleep at night assets…blimey we may even get some leadership from Canberra…or even the feed may go down and we could just ignore their childish antics…who knows but suspect the next quarter will be interesting…hold tight for a fast ride!!!
Things to make me go mmmmmm!!!
Manchester United lose 4-0 to Milton Keynes….pretty embarrassing especially considering they have just broken the record books with their new signing!!
VIX back down at 11.63…nothing to worry about at all…although a couple of the Fed chiefs from Kansas,Dallas and Philly suggested that rates should move up before the July meeting to 1%…let’s face it we all know rates in the US will rise in 2015…
Zombieland is submerging back into recession and I do NOT believe that Mario has the tools to stop it..the sad fact is that governments around the world have got lazy and complacent to changing their economies and their culture because they are relying on their central banks to do all the work..why reform when the ECB will just do all the heavy lifting..why bother when you will get bailed out anyway..why bother when there is a guy with the keys to the printing press and he is itching to fire it up…’whatever it takes’….well it’s time to walk the walk Super Mario!!
This is scary 55% of rivers in China that were around in the 90s are gone!!!
Flight Centre Travel Group has said its underlying profit before tax rose 10 per cent to a record $367.5 million, in line with its latest guidance, and revealed it is buying a UK tour operator founded by its chief executive, Graham Turner…not sure the market is going to be satisfied with this number …volatility to come perhaps…
Seven West Media has posted a $149.2 million profit for 2013/14 helped by cost cuts and improved television earnings, which helped it turn around its $70 million loss a year earlier.
The world really has gone mad…Snapchat is said to be in a funding round with the valuation of $10bn…I mean come on..$10bn and nothing to show for it..no revenue …really guys!!!
US consumer confidence surged to the highest level since October 2007 in August with the Conference Board index rising to 92.4.
US durable goods orders surged in July with an increase of 22.6% reported. The biggest increase seen since the series began in 1992, was far stronger than both the upwardly-revised 2.7% gain of June and expectations for an increase of 8.0% with a huge boost in aircraft orders largely responsible for the monster print.Gotta love summer air shows..no wonder the US has been quiet on the MH370 disappearance…pilot error or conspiracy better than catastrophic plane failure..
US Biotechs are up 33% from the April lows and have reached all-time record highs…all those bids and inversions going on where low rate tax haven status a reason driving takeovers…
Steadfast bids for Calliden Group…
Good to see Tony chucking in a visit to a Cancer Centre so he could claim his travel expenses after a fund raiser in Melbourne…
Boral has just announced some promising figures and an optimistic outlook… ahead of forecasts…will propel them higher…
The FBI had an opening for an assassin.
After all the background checks, interviews and testing were done, there were 3 finalists: two men and a woman.
For the final test, the FBI agents took one of the men to a large metal door, handed him a gun and said,
”We must know that you will follow your Instructions no matter what the circumstances. Inside the room you will find your wife sitting in a chair. Kill her!”
The man said, ”You can’t be serious. I could never shoot my wife.”
The agent said, ”Then you’re not the right man for this job. Take your wife and go home.”
The second man was given the same instructions. He took the gun and went into the room. All was quiet for about 5 minutes.
The man came out with tears in his eyes, ”I tried, but I can’t kill my wife.”
The agent said, ”You don’t have what it takes. Take your wife and go home.”
Finally, it was the woman’s turn. She was given instructions to kill her husband. She took the gun and went into the room.
Shots were heard, one after another. They heard screaming, crashing, banging on the walls. After a few minutes, all was quiet.
The door opened slowly and there stood the woman, wiping the sweat from her brow.
”This gun is loaded with blanks,” she said. ”I had to kill him with the chair.”
I have been nominated for the Ice Bucket Challenge so I intend doing it tonight!!!Am a bit worried about how much the execs of ALS take home to run the charity but that’s another story…
Have a great day
