Morning sports fans,

Such sad news overnight with the shooting down of an airliner..not sure why you would want to do that at all…but markets reacted pretty badly in this potential escalation in the USV Russia unofficial conflict..Israel invading Gaza also troubling…as a result equity markets plunged and gold soared…maybe though maybe this may hasten an end to hostilities in Ukraine..let’s hope something good comes out of this tragedy…

Expect another day of bank selling and resource focus..we may see some safe haven buying though but will see…expect us to test 5500 early and then steady with nerves increasing depending on what news comes out of Ukraine…certainly not going to help the situation there as finger pointing starts and they try to work out who is responsible for this terror act.

Idea of the Day-Punters Paradise-Finally my LYC started to move too!!!

The resource boom is back on …in the last month or so the pulse of the small resource stock has quickened..a combo of higher Nickel, Zinc and Copper prices and the rush into graphite through SYR and others has really breathed life into the sector…MD’s are positively buzzing and punters are out and about..risk is back on and the low shareprices in the tax loss period may never be repeated again…saw a couple of really interesting ones yesterday..

First up Cassini (CZI).Very impressive MD from a non-mining background..good business man and has bought the West Musgrave Nickel Copper project from BHP..now these guys bought it for a song ..$250,000 with a kicker when they produce…really great deal…much holes to come and scoping phase kicks off in September..there is no doubt they have stolen this project and there were a number of reasons they could do such a good deal..in the area, got on well with the locals…anyway they are cashed up having raised $10m and infill drilling starts September…will go a lot higher in the coming months..

And secondly Iron Bark Zinc…Zinc is hot ..worlds supply is dwindling rapidly as mines close and lack of investment in new ones hits production in a world that needs Zinc..China currently only uses 25% of the zinc it needs to use to galvanise its steel compared to the more stringent worldwide standards..if they went to the standard they would devour he worlds stockpiles and two years production in the blink of an eye…now IBG has a project in Greenland..they have a partner with Glencore and the China Non Ferrous…capped at under $40m this one is highly leveraged to the Zinc price and good management with strong backers…has doubled since the end of the financial year as pressure from tax loss selling has gone ..would be a buyer of these for the long term at anything under 9 cents…

Both are interesting for punters looking for high risk high return investments…

Things to make me go mmmmmm!!!

Rupert is not going to give up with his bid for Time Warner…

Looks like Murray isn’t the only one looking into banks as the UK is launching its own inquiry into the high street banks which control 77% of the system in the UK..four banks there too…implications for NAB I guess

Microsoft is axing 18,000 jobs..mostly at Nokia..bet they said when they took over nothing would change and everyone should be positive about the future under Microsoft!!!They always do!!

Last night the VIX jumped an amazing 32%!!!!More earnings misses from US companies … SanDisk Corp. sank 14 percent today, the most in the S&P 500, after posting profit margins and sales forecasts that fell short of some analysts’ estimates. Yum! Brands Inc. dropped 6.9 percent and Mattel Inc. lost 6.6 percent as results disappointed. AutoNation Inc. slid 8.2 percent as earnings missed forecasts….although Ebay were ahead of forecasts as were IBM….Also in the news again was the Portugese bank as its shares plunged 8% last night..

Telstra hit a 13 year high yesterday as they won a court battle against the NBN Co over a commercial dispute that could see the telco giant pocket more than $200m of taxpayer dollars.

US Weekly jobless claims fell to 310,000 and housing starts fell in data releases overnight. They blamed the weather for the dismal housing starts…don’t they know a bull market marches on its house prices…

And finally…

A blonde girl gets a job as a physical education teacher of 16 year olds.

She notices a boy at the end of the field standing alone, while all the other kids are running

around having fun, kicking a football.

She takes pity on him and decides to speak to him.

‘You ok?’ she asks.

‘Yes,’ he replies.

‘You can go and play with the other kids, you know,’ she says.

‘It’s best I stay here,’ he says.

‘Why’s that, sweetie?’ asks the blonde..

The boy looks at her incredulously and says: “Because I’m the bloody goal keeper !!!
