Morning all,

Well, seems we are back to the ‘Fair is Foul and Foul is Fair’ routine with disappointing US retail numbers and jobs numbers helping the market higher. The question seems to be will Yellen (not Screaming) be able to keep the Taper in place if the US economy starts to stall. Whether the stall is weather related or not is irrelevant. It is real..Lower for longer perhaps…anyway was enough to turn things around on the Street. That and the huge takeover of Time Warner from Comcast…bit of M&A never hurt anyone…Fifty Shades of Grey or was that something else?

Unfortunately our market was turned around yesterday by the nasty unemployment numbers.6% and losing those full time jobs…and that’s before the Holden, Ford, Toyota, QANTAS, Forge etc…think the Government needs a plan..a plan so cunning you could pin a tail on it and call it a fox!Enter Uncle Joe with QANTAS resue package…revoke Joyces’ Visa! Simple!!

The good news is reporting season is looking ok..so there’s a few disasters but generally ok..RIO out last night looked good…surprised the boffins a little..of course if you had been reading my emails it would not have surprised you..BHP on the 18th will surprise to the upside as well…in fact they may even run pre the numbers..stranger things have happened.

And its Gold! Gold! Gold! for Australia as the continued pessimism in the market helps push it above $1300….Go baby…NCM numbers today and yesterday they announced  they had no intention of raising equity at present. Going through the numbers is all goobledygook to me so will await the experts at these things ..no dividend though but seem to be affirming outlook and production etc…hopefully the worse is behind them..that is when the current management is gone!

SPI is up 40 and Aussie slipping a little…but big mover overnight was US Natural Gas…that takeover of Aurora looks more and more interesting by the day…implication for others …maybe BHP wasn’t so dumb with Petrohawk after all!!

Looks like we will have a go at 5350 again…banks to lead but now resources have a taste for it too so all good…

Idea of the day

It’s all about the reporting season at the moment..it’s like audition time for analysts…the one time of the year when they feel needed…they get to justify their guesses and show off to their prospective new employers!!

TLS announced an improved dividend yesterday so this will underpin the share price for some time to come..RIO number was good little easier in London though…would expect to see more gains today..

The rule of thumb is that ones that surprise and do well continue to do well for some time to come..so jump on the train and ride it like you have Casey Jones at the wheel…

Keep an eye on Sundance Energy …this one is close to the US gas takeover target AUT….it has production in the Eagle Ford and Greater Anadarko, Denver-Julesburg and Williston Basins.worth buying under 1.10..especially given US gas prices are going silly!!!And M&A activity too….simples!

Things to make me go mmmmm!!

Results today.. Automative Holdings, Charter Hall Retail, Newcrest Mining, SCA Property Group, Sims Group.

Inflation number from China today too..

More troubles for listed transport company McAleese Group (MCS).It has entered a trading halt ahead of an update on the restructure of its troubled Cootes business, with fears among investors that the firm could announce further contract losses.

GPT Group’s Michael Cameron has warned growth will be “below trend” this year, despite some renewed confidence in Australia’s future as he delivered an annual net profit of $571.5 million, 3.9 per cent lower than in 2012.

Looks like QAN has been granted special case status by Uncle Joe as their continued lobbying of the Federal Government seems to be paying dividends. Virgin not happy!

American economist and demographer Harry S Dent jnr says there is a bubble in Australian house prices and we should brace ourselves for a spectacular collapse sometime this year.he reckons we will see 30% falls after the Chinese property market implodes this year causing us to follow suit….idiot must have a book to sell!!Now  of course we are forever being told about bubbles..I want to be told about when the needle will burst them!!!That’s more important!

Digital Tulip ,Bitcon,is well and truly on the nose as hackers are attacking the cyber exchanges where these things are traded..who could possibly foretold this one…something really valuable trading on a digital platform..I mean the east European crooks target my laptop for Gods sake so the Bitcon sites are a much better target. In years to come this will just be a symbol of the stupidity of markets.MBA students and trainee investment bankers will study this as a way to print money that is worth nothing inherently and hope that no one notices …whoops maybe that is the Fed!

Italy is now on its 65th Government since World War II with news overnight that PM Letta has resigned to allow his younger nemesis to take over..third unelected leader of Italy since Bungasconi in 2008!!Anyway the new guy has a plan…a plan so cunning etc…

All under control here…and in Greece despite the so called Grecovery there are record number unemployed..scary..and trouble is brewing in Kazakhstan,Turkey,Venezuela etc…and even in South Africa where Zumba is urging for calm and an end to the strikes that are crippling the country…and he is looking at you Mitchell Johnson!!

And finally….here is a priceless look at Schapelle Corbys’ Facebook Movie..the ones I hate ..but this is gold…watch this… forget Channel Seven…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oA-V8WhMsw Courtesy of Andrew for it..

And cos I can …

A tour bus driver is driving with a bus load of seniors down a highway when he is tapped on his shoulder by a little old

She offers him a handful of peanuts, which he gratefully munches up.

After about 15 minutes, she taps him on his shoulder again and she hands him another handful of peanuts.

She repeats this gesture about five more times.

When she is about to hand him another batch again he asks the little old lady, ‘Why don’t you eat the peanuts yourself?’.

‘We can’t chew them because we’ve no teeth’, she replied.

The puzzled driver asks,

‘Why do you buy them then?’

The old lady replied,

‘We just love the chocolate around them.’

Have a great weekend
